INNOVATIVE GEOSPATIAL DATA:
AfricaScope has developed many innovative datasets - demographic estimates for South Africa, Living Standard Measures (LSM), Mindset and Financial Access to provide an in-depth understanding of African markets.
Recently we have developed demographic estimates, income and Gross Geographic Product (GGP) data sets for several African countries.
FINANCIAL SECTOR RESEARCH:
Our focus is on research in the financial access and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) environments within South Africa, Africa and Asia.
Bob Currin has provided technical expertise in the implementation of financial and MSME surveys in countries like Botswana, DRC, Tanzania, Zambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda, Pakistan and Thailand. AfricaScope has recently conducted an MSME survey in Lesotho
QUANTITATIVE & QUALITATIVE RESEARCH:
AfricaScope has implemented quantitative and qualitative research studies across Africa.
Craig Schwabe has acted as a technical adviser in the implementation of Citizen Report Card surveys in South Africa, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Mozambique.
AfricaScope has overseen the implementation of a socio-economic, sexual reproductive health, health facility audits and health surveys in the South Africa and across SADC.

CEO & Founder
Bob Currin is Managing Director of AfricaScope and is the responsible for socio-economic surveys. Bob specializes in the conducting of financial and MSME surveys in Africa and Asia. He has worked in more than 13 African countries and internationally in the advertising industry. Bob has worked for a wide variety of public and private sector organisations across Africa.

Director & Co-founder
Craig focuses on the geospatial/GIS activities of the company. He specializes in the development of geospatial data products for South Africa and Africa. A further specialization is in the use of accessibility modelling in the public and private sectors. He has been an adviser to multilateral and multinational organizations in the development and use of geospatial data. Craig has published many reports, books, chapters and scientific papers as well as presented papers at a number of national and international conferences.

Researcher and Technologies Specialist
He holds a BSc Degree majoring in Genetics and Psychology. His current responsibilities include project planning, questionnaire development and design, questionnaire programming (for electronic data collection), equipment/technologies setup and maintenance, compiling supporting documentation and manuals, training, compiling training manuals, progress reporting, team monitoring, tech support, project management, data cleaning & validating, basic data analysis, report writing, and more. He has worked on numerous projects including but not limited to: National Attitudinal Survey in Malawi, Understanding the Remittances from Botswana to Zimbabwe Survey, TIMS Regional Mapping Study and Safe Guard Young People Baseline Survey Lesotho.

Holds a BSc. Geomatics from the University of Pretoria. Gontse has worked on a number of projects for AfricaScope. Initially being part of a large team doing manual geocoding for a client focusing on the short term insurance industry. More recently he has focused on the use of TNTMips to extract land cover and demographic data. He has worked on a number of retail chain databases.

Meet AfricaScope Europe
AfricaScope has established a sister company called AfricaScope Europe that is based in Dublin, Republic of Ireland and Belfast, Northern Ireland
Bruce is a qualified town and regional planner with over 40 years of planning experience in both the public and private sectors in South Africa and Ireland. He has been closely involved in Geographic Information matters, representing Ireland in relation to the INSPIRE Directive and being the President of the European-wide focussed European Umbrella Organisation for Geographic Information (EUROGI). He is currently the President of the Irish Organisation for Geographic Information (IRLOGI). For over two years he was Senior Advisor: Spatial Data Infrastructures to the World Bank. Bruce lives in Ireland.

Johann is the Technical Director at Africascope Europe and is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He has over twelve years' experience as a GIS Specialist and has strong geospatial software and hardware skills. He is fluent in the use of ESRI’s ArcGIS software as well as MicroImages’ TNT Mips software. His specializations include development of geospatial datasets, geospatial analysis and map production. He has also undergone training in conducting accessibility modelling.

Dr Chris de Kock: is the former head of the Crime Information Analysis Centre (CIAC) of the South African Police Service (SAPS). He holds a PhD in Sociology and has expensive experience as a researcher and analyst in crime and violence in South Africa. He is also a consultant to police services in other Southern African countries. He works with AfricaScope in the analysis of crime statistics and in the developing of crime atlases.
Michael O Donovan: is a specialist in the analysis and management of large socio-economic and political databases. He is currently a director of a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the improvement of quantitative analysis in the social sciences. He is a specialist in the use of statistical and data mining techniques. His focus areas include crime, poverty and inequality, migration, socio-economic development and political behaviour.
Prof. Tom de Jong: Prof. de Jong holds a PhD in Geography from the Utrecht University in The Netherlands. He is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht University and the managing director of a Stellenbosch-based geo-information consultancy firm. He is also the original developer of the FlowMap software and is recognised as one of the leading experts in undertaking accessibility or service location modelling. Prof. de Jong has undertaken many projects in South Africa and across the world. He was part of a team that did accessibility modeling of government service points in poverty nodes in South Africa. In more recent years he has worked with AfricaScope in developing optimized dealer networks for many motor manufacturers in South Africa.
Prof. Louis van Tonder: Louis van Tonder holds a PhD in Demography from the University of Pretoria. Until his retirement he worked at Statistics South Africa and was responsible for constructing the mid-year population estimates on an annual basis.
Adrian Roos: Adrian Roos is a Certified Professional Geoinformatics Practitioner (GPr GISc1310) with a focus on retail, FMCG and the informal trade. He specialises in applying scientific approaches to determining where to position or promote products using trade area analysis, location allocation and predictive modelling techniques. He furthermore provides expertise in solutions development and the building or optimization of field support structures to operationalise merchandising and promotional campaigns.
